If you’re a current patient wondering how to renew your medical cannabis card in Illinois, you may not need to go through the renewal and payment process. Recently, the Illinois Department of Health – Division of Medical Cannabis reached out to cardholders with an important update.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Illinois Department of Public Health is immediately implementing a temporary process change for patients and caregivers whose cards will be expiring within the next 6 months. You will not be required to extend or renew your cards through renewal application and payment. You will receive new cards in the mail within the next few weeks which will add an additional year to the card term length. If you have already submitted a renewal application and payment, please understand that refunds are not allowed.
We hope this will alleviate some concerns during this crisis.
How Do I Know If I Qualify?
If your medical cannabis registry card has an expiration date between 10/30/20 and 4/30/21, you should automatically receive a new card in the mail. The new card will add an additional year to the card term length without the need to extend or renew your card through renewal application and payment.
